Discussion on the effect of surface treatment of copper-plated steel wire on the adhesion between rubber and copper-plated steel wire

I. Introduction

With the continuous development of the automobile industry, the amount of tires is increasing, and stricter requirements are placed on the quality of tires.Cut-saws for tire products are also the most representative products in the rubber industry. The advantages and disadvantages will directly affect the entire national economy. In the rubber industry, more and more products use metal as a reinforcing framework material. For example: steel cords and bead wires, they must be firmly bonded with rubber to form a whole, in order to play their skeleton role, especially the steel wires with different properties are currently used, and the bonding technology of rubber and steel wires often becomes tires The key to quality. The problem of the adhesion of the bead wire to rubber is one of the key technologies to ensure the quality of the tire.If the rubber is bonded to the wire, the bead can be tightly stabilized on the rim, ensuring various stresses between the vehicle and the road. The transmission makes the hard bead gradually transition to the soft sidewall, preventing stress concentration and abrasion of the spout.

Regarding the adhesion of rubber and steel wire, most of the information introduced is the adhesion of brass plating, galvanized steel wire, etc. to rubber. It is believed that the adhesion of rubber to steel wire is closely related to the formula and process conditions of the rubber compound. However, there are few studies on the factors that affect the surface of the steel wire.In order to find a good bonding effect, we focused on the treatment of the surface of pure copper plated steel wire, the influence of the production process of the steel wire and the role of the adhesive in rubber bonding. A preliminary study explored the effect of the treatment of copper-plated steel wire on the bonding properties of rubber and copper-plated steel wire.

2. The bonding theory of copper and rubber and the influencing factors of bonding

1. Adhesive mechanism:

According to a large amount of data, it is believed that the bonding of copper-plated steel wire and rubber is on the surface of the steel wire

The process of the chemical reaction of the copper atom with the rubber molecule through sulfur is as follows:

(1)    2Cu + S → Cu2S

(2)    Cu2S + S → 2CuS

(3)    Cu2S + S-R → Cu2-S-SR

(4)    Cu2S + R-CH=CH-R → R-CH-CH2-R

                                |

                                S- Cu2

(5)  Cu + RS* → Cu-S-R

S * denotes the radical       R represents a hydrocarbon rubber
